Biography
Nghi Nguyen graduated from University of Houston in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. As part of a pioneering team at what was then Lexicon Genetics (now Lexicon Pharmaceutical) she helped establish their first and only High Throughput Screening Department. It’s there where she obtained most of her drug screening and discovery background and achieve the title of Principal Research. In 2012, Nghi joined Texas A&M Institute of Biosciences and Technology (IBT) as Senior Research Associate and is now a Research Specialist maintaining the screening core’s well-organized daily operation to provide resources for specific scientific research interests. Nghi works alongside her colleagues, a team of experts in assay development and high throughput screening running multiple cancer related projects. During her 10 years at the IBT, she has broadened her knowledge while working with different automation applications as well as integration and analytic software to produce precise and consistent data. The Screening Core’s project scope ranges from biochemical to imaging output on various cell models in both 2D and 3D while not being limited to spheroids and organoids. Nghi’s expertise in project management, assay development and optimization support High Throughput Screening and Research Core at the IBT by providing tools and resources to TMC principal investigators. These include scientists in academia as well as startup and pharmaceutical companies in their research to combat many diseases through the repurpose, combinatorial avenues as well as new drug discoveries. Ms. Nguyen is also actively involved in her Alma Mater Alumni Association doing outreach to support students from middle school to undergraduates in pursuing their scientific careers. She and her husband enjoy spending time with their two children on the weekends, and according to her kids, “mom loves to clean”. Nghi is also a fan of good scotch.
