Biography
Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Translational Medical Sciences, Texas A&M Health Science Center
Bachelor’s Degree from Texas A&M University in Biochemistry Ph.D. from Rice University, also in Biochemistry. Thesis advisor: Dr. Fred Rudolph, focused on understanding the tissue distribution of the purine metabolic enzyme adenosine deaminase (which plays a key role in the development and maintenance of the immune system) and the functional role of active site amino acids in substrate binding and catalysis.
After a postdoctoral fellowship here at the TAMU-IBT in the laboratory of Dr. Wallace McKeehan, I joined the Immunopharmacology and Targeted Therapy Laboratory led by Dr. Michael Rosenblum at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
My translational research program primarily focuses on the development and characterization of targeted therapies for cancer treatment. The primary aim is the development and characterization of novel protein therapeutic agents through the use of antibodies and growth factors for the targeted delivery of toxins, cytokines, or pro-apoptotic molecules into tumor cells, tumor vasculature, or cells that support tumor growth. The development of these “fusion proteins” involves the identification of important biological targets on cells, the expression of the fusion proteins in mammalian cells, and characterization studies in both in vitro and in vivo models, including efficacy, PK/PD, and off-target toxicity.
